aleatoric (adj.): characterized by chance or indeterminate elements
I don’t have a lot to say about this word, other that I’m glad it exists and that I’m now aware of it. I think in a generation where people refer to things as being “random” all the time (and often inappropriately, when what the speaker means is “arbitrary”), it’s nice to have a specific term that could be applied to a concept or experience with subsets of true randomness.
